I’m ending the last 90 days of the year in a way I’ve never done before: ending the year the way I want to start it. This is in part to Rachel Hollis’ “Last 90 Days Challenge” though I had already set a similar goal for myself prior to learning about this challenge, I thought having a group of people working on a similar challenge could help, so I hopped on this train!
So what exactly is the 90-day challenge? Basically, it’s a personal challenge—unique to you, wherein you decide to end year the way you wish to start it, for example, some common New Year Resolutions may look something like this: I want to lose 15 pounds; I want to organize that garage, I want to meditate, I want to eat better, etc.… This challenge propels us to act now, instead of waiting till January 1st.
Imagine how different your year would start if you were already actively working toward your goals!
If this sounds like something you want to be part of but have no idea where to start, then I have a few tips for you. If you want to do it with me, then I invite you to email at mari@marisuggs.com or follow me on Instagram and send me a direct message letting me know you’re doing it. All this means is that I will encourage you along your way! However, if you want to do it on your own, that’s perfectly okay too, though I do encourage you to find an accountability partner as research shows this method works best.
Okay, so here we go, how do I think you should start this challenge.
What do you want?
If you don’t know where you’re going, you’re never going to get there. So, get clear on your goals; what is it that you want to accomplish? What is that goal that year after year keeps taunting you? Then, be specific. Don’t just say I want to lose weight, say, I want to lose 15 pounds by December 31, 2018.
Why do you want it?
WHY do you want this goal? This is an important step because you’ll be able to understand if this goal is authentic to you, or if you’re simply doing it because you think it’s what you’re supposed to want/have/do based on someone’s else’s dreams. Do you want to lose 15 pounds because you know you'll be healthier and more confident? Or do you want to lose 15 pounds because you think everyone on Instagram is perfect?
What do you want to experience?
What do you want to experience is another way of saying, how do you want to feel? It’s been my experience that ultimately our goals are based off an emotion we want to feel: I want to feel secure, happy, fulfilled, etc. knowing how you want to feel can you help you hone in on the experience you want to have.
This is a good place to start because you’re creating a map for your life. You know what you want, why you want it and how you want to feel. Following these simple steps will help you stay on track, and helps as a reminder whenever you're thinking of giving up.
I want you to take the following thought with you; the only difference between the person you are today, and the person who’s reached the goals you’ve written down, is your willingness to stick with it and follow through.
It is important to remember to do you, in other words, focus on your goals, not someone else’s. It can sometimes be easy to think we want this or that based on our surroundings. Don’t get off track, return to your map and remind yourself what YOU want. The only way you will follow through is if you stay focused on you and your walk, not by walking in someone’s else’s path.
Being inspired by others is very different than thinking you have to do what they do in order for you to reach your own goals. For example, when it comes to working out, I love yoga and because of it, I’m able to stick to it, consistently. But every time I think I need to do something else—maybe more cardio—like the incredibly fit girl I saw running in my neighborhood, you know what happens? I don’t work out at all. Why? Because I’m not being true to my own journey, I’m trying to walk someone else’s.
The challenge starts on October 1, 2018. If you want to join me on this 90-day challenge, remember to email at mari@marisuggs.com or direct message me on Instagram.
